Kilt - Chrome Bellows

Kilt
Chrome Bellows (Peyote Tapes 07)
C34 edition of 100

As I know nothing of Kilt or their 2 members, I'll just paste the blurb from Peyote Tapes :

"Wherein two former habitants of LA’s Il Corral and most under sung noise misanthropes on the planet, Bob Bellerue (Redglaer, Tecumseh, recent collab w/Telecult Powers, Anarchymoon label) and Raven Chacon (Black Guys, Cobra//Group, Sick,Sick,Sick label) give the accordion it’s much deserved due, that is strangling, stabbing and beating it into a brutalized pulp. Some of the most well executed and focused work by the duo yet. P.S.F. Records/High Rise/Mainliner/KISS tribute art."

Excellent noise if you're into this kind of thing, and still available from the label. Buy it!

Mirror
A Pilgrim's Solace (Three Poplars 3P12 - 2003)
CDR, edition of 150 signed and numbered copies in handmade covers

Back to Mirror. It's eadier for me as they really don't need any more words of introduction...

Sorc'henn - Sapin Rouge

Sorc'henn
Sapin Rouge (not-yet released)
CDr

I hesitated a lot before posting this one, as it is still unreleased. I got it directly from Laurent with other freebies. I hope he won't mind too much my sharing it, but it is too good not to share! In fact one of the 3 tracks has been made available some time ago as a stream on Sorc'henn myspace page.

It seems it will be released as a 3 CDR set in the near or not-so-near future : "La montée de sève 3 pieces box : "Sapin Rouge", "Hails, Queen ov May !" & "Park Frost" should be released as a 3 cdr box by Maggot Valley..." Don't know if it will be edited in some way before release (not that it needs it!). Maggot Valley can be found here or here, but no mention of this release as of yet.

No picture of the cover this time.

Monos - Below The Ground

Monos
Below The Ground (ICR72)
CDR, edition of 135 copies

This one came out and was gone before I noticed (something that I can't explain, as I love Monos and I thought I was keeping a eye open for their long-expected new release). Fortunately, I managed to buy a copy at the original price a couple of weeks ago.
I post only the bonus CDr available with the first 135 copies of Above The Sky, which is still widely available, and of course still at ICR.

What I can say is that the music on Below The Ground is as different of the one on Above the Sky as their names imply. No birds chirping on this one. And apparently, less field-recordings, or maybe more processed field-recordings. It's always difficult to identify the source with Monos, and that's part of their appeal.

Monument Of Urns - Discography

Monument Of Urns
The Ancient Method (Hand Hewn Timbre 2005) 3''CDr
Destroyer Of All (Hand Hewn Timbre 2006) 3''CDr
Cruelty (Hand Hewn Timbre 2007) 3''CDr
Absence (Hand Hewn Timbre 2008) 3''CDr
Blaspheme (Hand Hewn Timbre 2010) CDr

Let's listen to some doom metal for a change. I have put together in one link the whole Monument Of Urns discography : one 3'' CDr a year from 2005 to 2008, nothing in 2009, and a regular CDr in 2010 (just because the 29 minutes of music wouldn't fit on a 3'' CDr, I suppose). Each time you've got the same deal : one long track, gorgeously macabre packaging, and splendid drone/doom/experimental/whatever music.
I have come to wait impatiently for their yearly release. I was crushed when they released none last year. I say 'they' but it's actually 'him', as Dan seems to handle this project alone. I would love to hear more, but in a sense, it's better this way: it's a change from the releasing frenzy of some.
Buy their releases, they're worth every penny. I bought Cruelty from Aquarius Records in 2007, amazed at the number of 'o' they'd put in 'dooooooooo....ooom' in their review of it, after listening to the first two downloaded from a blog, and I've been hooked since. I sincerely hope you'll do the same after this post.

Sorry for those who would have liked only the 2010 Blaspheme, you'll have to download the lot...

Ajilvsga - The White Feathered Stem

Ajilvsga
The White Feathered Stem (Sound & Fury S&F021)
CDr edition of 75 hand-numbered copies
Throw me the first stone, but I prefer CDs to tapes. Too bad when you consider the Ajilvsga discography, so, when once in a while, they issue a CDr, I'm just happy! This one came out in late 2009 on the Australian label Sound & Fury. It seems it's still available from them, you know what to do...
It's packaged in a black, wax-sealed envelope which seem to be the case of most S&F releases. As for the music, you've got the typical Ajilvsga serving, just what we wanted!

Mirror - Live In Bern

Mirror
Live In Bern (Three Poplars 3P16 - 2003)
CDR, 2nd edition of 150 in handmade and numbered covers

More Mirror, in the same vein as In To The Wood. In fact, both CDrs were later released in a gorgeous 2xLP set with handmade covers : Figures In A Landscape.

Mirror - In To The Wood

Mirror
In To The Wood (Three Poplars 3P007 - 2002)
CDR, edition of 200 in handmade covers

Mirror is just my favourite drone band. And In To The Wood is just my favourite piece of music by them. It happens to be named after a short story by Robert Aickman, who is just my favourite writer of "strange tales" (on-par with Thomas Ligotti). And this particular short story Into The Wood is just one of my favourite by Aickman. 70 minutes of pure bliss with more than a tinge of unease. Enough said.

Indigenous Capsule - Indigenous Capsule

Indigenous Capsule
Indigenous Capsule (Peyote Tapes 06 / Object In Hand 4)
CDr handnumbered edition of 50

Indigenous Capsule is Nathan Young and Sound Pressings a.k.a. Danford Mitchell. Probably a one-shot alias, but who knows? The CDr comes in a cardboard "jewel" box, with hand-made artwork by Sound Pressings, and comes with an insert and a set of 4 prints from a total of 50 different designs. No box is the same (obviously as it is hand-drawn the box itself is unique, but the content is also unique. I got #10, the artwork included is from #13, and yes, there's only one print in common with my set). As for the music, here is what Peyote Tapes says about it : "Amplifier worship, synth noise and field recordings".

Unexpectedly, it seems it is still available from Peyote Tapes here at the ridiculously low price of $7 in the US and $9 everywhere else in the Galaxy : run for it!!

Sorc'henn - Shadow Is Ov Silver Phantom Is Ov Gold

Sorc'henn
Shadow Is Ov Silver Phantom Is Ov Gold (Digitalis Limited ltd#136)
C56 edition of 72 copies

New Sorc'henn tape on the ever-excellent Digitalis Limited label. The short intro track made me think of Mirror a lot, and then the rest of the tape got me back to Sorc'henn in all its strange derelict beauty. Haunting music with really scary bits. I love it.

Sorc'henn - Kebenn Hag Agripa

Sorc'henn
Kebenn Hag Agripa (Bone Structure bone82)
CDr edition of 100

More Sorc'henn. This is a reissue on CDr of "old" tracks (1996-97) previously released on tape. A direct reference to Davis Lynch this time : "And now, it's dark!", and what seems to be a reference to H.P. Lovecraft : "The Whisperer in Shadow" is almost the title of one of his best short stories if I'm not mistaken... That should be enough to imagine what you can hear on this album.

I had some trouble ripping the CDr which is quite scratched on the surface. Hope the quality is OK, though.

Released on Bone Structure, which seems quite an interesting label, unfortunately their blog seems to be down.

Godseye - Book Of Lies Vol. 1

Godseye
Book Of Lies Vol. 1 (Peyote Tapes 05)
C40 edition of 75

Godseye is Brad Rose, his wife Eden Hemming Rose and Nathan Young. But it's not Ajilvsga with a woman voice on top. It's very different in fact. Very synth-driven, with Eden reading some great texts (occult poetry indeed). I wasn't expecting that at all when I first heard it. Hope you'll be as pleasently surprised as I was then.

If anybody had their eponymous tape on Dial Square Tapes to share I'd be delighted!

Ajilvsga - Little Earth

Ajilvsga
Little Earth (Peyote Tapes 01)
C20 edition of 100

A tape on Nathan's label, Little Earth is once more a great Ajilvsga tape (damn! I really like this duo!). Side B is Side A played backwards. Yes. And stangely, the result is not ridiculous. It just works. Fortunately, unlike some Black Metal records played backwards, it won't open a portal to Hell or conjure malevolent spirits. It will only make you drown in bliss. It sure made me...
